Electronic Data Processing (EDP) can refer to the use of automated methods to process commercial data. Typically, this uses relatively simple, repetitive activities to process large volumes of similar information. For example: stock updates applied to an inventory, banking transactions applied to account and customer master files, booking and ticketing transactions to an airline's reservation system, billing for utility services.
A system that uses computers to process office work or business management data; it refers to a method in which all data is fed into a computer's input device and the computer processes it comprehensively, without error and without human effort. As EDPS spread with the development of electronic technology and advances in applied technology, even complex office work that could not be handled by machines became possible, and office work also became faster.
