Electric charge (電荷, English: electric charge) is the fundamental cause of electrical phenomena within an electromagnetic field. In particular, the charge held by a hypothetical point in space is called a point charge, and the amount of charge is called the quantity of charge (Q).
The SI unit of charge is the coulomb, and its unit symbol is C.
Also, charge can be negative or positive. (This differs from other physical quantities, such as mass, that have only positive values.) Conventionally, the charge of protons, positrons, and the like is taken as positive, and the charge of electrons and the like as negative. An object that carries charge in this way is called a charged body (帶電體).
