A local sandbox for safely running AI-generated code
About
- An open-source sandbox that runs AI-generated or untrusted code in a microVM-based isolated environment
- Provides faster startup than containers (about 200ms) and strong security isolation
- Locally, the agent CLI, Buildah, and krunvm work together to create MicroVMs, managing state and images on a case-sensitive volume
- Runs on the local machine (macOS / Linux), but can optionally integrate with a cloud control plane (Cloudflare Worker + API) when needed for remote sessions, queuing, and orchestration
- Can be installed via Homebrew or built from source; on macOS a dedicated APFS volume must be prepared with a separate setup script
- Supports running Python, JavaScript/Node/TypeScript, Go, and Ruby, and offers per-command execution, persistent VMs, and temporary VMs
- Provides a CLI interface including commands to create, run, and clean up VMs (agent vm create, agent vm exec, agent vm temp, etc.)
- When extended with Cloudflare Worker, supports Durable Objects-based session management and remote execution via REST/WebSocket APIs
