A digital video recorder (DVR) is a device that can record video to a hard disk-based digital storage device rather than to videotape. It is also called a PVR (personal video recorder).
It also includes stand-alone set-top boxes that can store video on disk or play back stored video, as well as software that can be used on a PC.
