Data transmission is the transfer of any data (a digital bitstream or a digitized analog signal[1]) or information from one location to another. In the past, transmission was done with means such as bonfires, and later came to be done using Morse code. Later still, streams of bits or bytes came to be transmitted with telex and computers using a variety of techniques. Transmission media include copper wire, optical fiber, lasers, radio, infrared, and so on. For example, when you visit a website, data is retrieved from a storage device and transmitted from the web server to the web browser. Communication protocols are a concept of data transmission. Today, much communication is done by packet-based protocols.

Types

Serial transmission
Sends data as a sequence of bits over a single line. Only 1 bit is sent at a time, but the transmission speed is fast.
Parallel transmission
Uses multiple lines to transmit several bits simultaneously in parallel.
