DBeaver is an SQL client and database administration tool. For relational databases, it communicates with the database through a JDBC driver using the JDBC API. For other databases (NoSQL), it uses proprietary database drivers. It provides an editor that supports autocompletion and syntax highlighting. By providing a plugin architecture based on the Eclipse plugin structure, it allows much of the application's behavior to be modified to provide database-specific or database-independent features. It is a desktop application written in Java and based on the Eclipse platform.
DBeaver is free and open-source software distributed under the Apache License.
How to install
Backing up a database
- Local client configuration - DBeaver Documentation
- Install MySQL/MariaDB local client for DBeaver on Debian/Ubuntu - LIBTECHNOPHILE
First, a local client must be installed. (Note: installing DBeaver includes mysqldump. If it is missing, proceed as below... or it may be a snap permission issue)
For mysql:
For MariaDB:
Then check with the which command
and proceed as follows.
- In DBeaver, right-click the table you want to back up to open the context menu
- Click
Tools > Dump database - On the "MySQL Dump" screen, click the "Local Client ..." button
- Click "Browse ..." in the combo box
- Click the "Add Home" button
- Enter the directory of the mysqldump location you checked earlier
If you installed it with snap, permission issues may occur. Connect the permissions or reinstall with --classic.
Restoring from an identical database
If you have a "source Table" and a "target Table" with exactly the same table structure,
in the "target Table", go to
and select the Table.
Even the uid is copied exactly.
Troubleshooting
When a Timeout occurs
- (DBeaver) Bigquery integration - when a Timeout occurs
In Connection settings, you can adjust the Timeout value under "Driver properties".
Permission denied
When you start a dump, the following error may occur:
2025-05-21 11:14:27.396 - IO error: Cannot run program "/run/user/1000/doc/2891bed9/bin/mysqldump" (in directory "/run/user/1000/doc/2891bed9/bin"): error=13, Permission denied
2025-05-21 11:14:27.397 - java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/run/user/1000/doc/2891bed9/bin/mysqldump" (in directory "/run/user/1000/doc/2891bed9/bin"): error=13, Permission denied

A path like /run/user/1000/doc/... may indicate a permission restriction caused by snap running in sandbox mode. See snap for details.
In this case, connect the permissions or reinstall with --classic.
