Coordinated Universal Time (French: Temps Universel Coordonné, English: Coordinated Universal Time, UTC) is the international standard time in effect since January 1, 1972. UTC is standardized based on International Atomic Time with leap second corrections.
UTC is also called Greenwich Mean Time (GMT); because UTC and GMT differ only in fractions of a second, the two are used interchangeably in everyday life. In technical notation, UTC is used.
