Condition-based maintenance (CBM) is a preventive maintenance strategy that determines when maintenance work is needed by monitoring assets or equipment.
CBM uses sensors and other monitoring equipment to collect data on equipment performance. It then uses algorithms, machine learning, and AI to analyze the collected data and identify patterns and anomalies that may indicate maintenance issues.
In the past, maintenance was performed on a fixed schedule or only when equipment failed, which often led to costly and inefficient maintenance practices (e.g., unexpected downtime and emergency repairs). Condition-based maintenance, however, offers a newer and more advanced approach to maintenance management.
Instead of performing maintenance on a predetermined schedule or waiting until equipment breaks down, CBM uses real-time data to identify maintenance needs, enabling more efficient and economical maintenance work.
