A memory device (storage device) is a device in a computer that holds data temporarily or permanently. A similar term is "storage device", which usually means non-volatile memory. Computer memory devices can be divided into main memory and secondary storage. Memory is often used interchangeably with the term "memory device", but it usually refers to main memory, and often specifically to RAM.
