Color Space

lastmod 2025-12-09created 2014-02-2714 edits

A color space is a spatial concept that represents a color system in three dimensions. All colors of a color system are expressed as 3D coordinates in this color space.

Here, a color system refers to color systems such as CIERGB, CIEXYZ, CIELAB, and CIELUV. Recently, in design academia and industry, color spaces are essential for reproducing accurate colors when researching color design or visual design, and in the development and application of color imaging equipment such as cameras, scanners, monitors, and color printers.

List of Color space

Color Space (Edit)

CIE

CIEXYZ, CIELAB, CIECAM02, CIELUV, Yuv, CIEUVW, CIE RGB

RGB

sRGB, RG chromaticity, Adobe, Wide Gamut, ProPhoto, scRGB, Rec.709, Rec.2020

YUV

YUV (PAL), YDbDr (SECAM), YIQ (NTSC), YCbCr, YPbPr, xvYCC

E.T.C

LMS, HSV (HSL-HSV; HSL; HSI), CMYK, CcMmYK, Hexachrome, RYB, Munsell, NCS, Pantone, RAL, OSA-UCS, Coloroid, RG, PCCS, ISCC-NBS, Imaginary color, OKLCH

RGB Converter

"""Conversion functions between RGB and other color systems.

This modules provides two functions for each color system ABC:

  rgb_to_abc(r, g, b) --> a, b, c
  abc_to_rgb(a, b, c) --> r, g, b

All inputs and outputs are triples of floats in the range [0.0...1.0]
(with the exception of I and Q, which covers a slightly larger range).
Inputs outside the valid range may cause exceptions or invalid outputs.

Supported color systems:
RGB: Red, Green, Blue components
YIQ: Luminance, Chrominance (used by composite video signals)
HLS: Hue, Luminance, Saturation
HSV: Hue, Saturation, Value
"""
