Checklist for transferring a domain
- Check whether Cloudflare supports the domain's TLD: https://www.cloudflare.com/ko-kr/tld-policies/
- Make sure the domain is not a premium domain or an internationalized domain name (IDN): Cloudflare currently does not support premium domains or internationalized domain names (Unicode).
- Make sure the domain was not registered or transferred in the last 60 days: ICANN rules prohibit transferring a domain that was registered or previously transferred within the last 60 days.
- Make sure the WHOIS registrant contact information has not been updated in the last 60 days: ICANN rules also prohibit transferring a domain if the WHOIS registrant contact information was modified in the last 60 days.
- Gather credentials for your current registrar: Make sure you have the credentials for your current registrar. You may not have logged in for a long time and may need to reset your password.
- Record your current DNS settings: Cloudflare automatically scans DNS records when you transfer a domain, but it is a good idea to capture your current settings in case something goes wrong.
- Remove WHOIS privacy if necessary: In most cases you can transfer a domain even with a WHOIS privacy service enabled. However, some registrars may prohibit transfers when a WHOIS privacy service is enabled.
- Disable DNSSEC: To disable DNSSEC, remove the DS record at your current DNS host and disable DNSSEC in the Cloudflare dashboard.
- Renew the domain if it needs renewal within the next 15 days: If the domain is due for renewal, you must renew it before starting the transfer.
- Unlock the domain: Registrars have a lightweight safeguard (also called a registrar lock or domain lock) that prevents unauthorized users from initiating a domain transfer. This lock blocks other registrars from initiating a transfer. Usually only the registrant can enable or disable this lock through the registrar's management interface.
- Sign up for Cloudflare: If you don't have a Cloudflare account yet, you can sign up here.
- #Add a domain to Cloudflare -> see the section below.
- Add a valid credit card to your Cloudflare account: If you haven't added a payment method to the billing profile in the Cloudflare dashboard yet, you will be prompted to add one when you add the domain.
- Review DNS records in Cloudflare: After adding the domain, review the DNS records Cloudflare configured automatically and compare them with those at your current registrar to make sure nothing is missing.
- Change DNS name servers to Cloudflare: To transfer the domain, the name servers must be set to Cloudflare.
- (Optional) Configure Cloudflare Email Routing: If you use email forwarding, you should migrate to Cloudflare Email Routing following this guide.
- Wait for the DNS changes to propagate: It can take up to 24 hours for the registrar to process the name server update. You will receive an email when Cloudflare confirms the change has taken effect. You cannot proceed with the domain transfer until this process is complete.
