An open-source project that reimplements the agent harness architecture of Claude Code in Python as a clean room implementation.
A Python clean-room (????) rewrite project based on the leaked Claude Code source
About
At 4 a.m. on March 31, 2026, the developer community was stirred when the source code of Claude Code was exposed. Korean developer Sigrid Jin (@instructkr), to avoid legal risk, chose not to keep the original source and instead rewrote the core features from scratch in Python before dawn and published them. That project is claw-code.
This repository is not a simple mirror of the leak; it is a clean-room reimplementation in Python of Claude Code's agent harness architecture — tool wiring, task orchestration, and runtime context management. All reconstruction work was carried out through AI orchestration using oh-my-codex (OmX), making use of $team mode (parallel code review) and $ralph mode (persistent execution loop).
-
src/— Python porting workspace (commands, tools, models, query_engine, etc.) -
tests/— verification of the Python implementation - A Rust port is also in progress on the
dev/rustbranch (aiming for memory safety + high performance) - Explicitly states that it is an independent project unaffiliated with Anthropic
The author was featured as a heavy user who consumed 25 billion Claude Code tokens a year in the WSJ's March 2026 article "The Trillion Dollar Race to Automate Our Entire Lives". This project is an extension of that harness engineering research.
Right after release, it passed 30K stars faster than any repository in GitHub history (currently ⭐ 33.1k, 🍴 44.9k), and the instructkr Discord is run alongside it as a Korean-language LLM community.
