Ceph is an open-source software-defined storage platform that implements object storage on a single distributed computer cluster. It provides a 3-in-1 interface for object-, block-, and file-level storage. Ceph primarily aims to be freely available to anyone while operating in a fully distributed manner, scaling to the exabyte level without a single point of failure. Since version 12, Ceph does not depend on other file systems; it has its own storage backend, BlueStore, which can directly manage hard disk drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD), and it can fully expose a POSIX file system.
