A cell is a concept in mobile communications referring to the area covered by a single base station. The English term for a mobile phone, cellular phone, derives from this. Since mobile communications have many users sharing a limited frequency band, frequency reuse is an important technical element. The service area can be expanded by combining several types of cells with different frequency bands.
