CMake (Cross Platform Make) is an open-source project, created by Kitware and the Insight Consortium, to build an alternative to Make that can be used across multiple platforms. It is also called Meta Make because it does not perform the traditional Make process itself, but only generates Make files suited to the specified operating system (solution files on Microsoft Windows). Its biggest advantage is that, unlike the traditional Make centered on Unix-like OSes, once written it supports not only Unix-like systems but also Microsoft Windows programming tools.

$ chmod +x cmake-3.18.0-Linux-x86_64.sh
$ sudo ./cmake-3.18.0-Linux-x86_64.sh --skip-license --prefix=/usr/local
Or in one line:
$ curl -s -L "https://github.com/Kitware/CMake/releases/download/v3.18.0/cmake-3.18.0-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz" | tar vxzf - --strip-components=1
Ubuntu cmake 3.x
The cmake in Ubuntu's official repository is not version 3.x. If you want to upgrade the version, add a repository as follows.
$ sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:george-edison55/cmake-3.x
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install cmake cmake-data

How to build from the directory containing the CMakeLists.txt file without changing directories:
