Web-based ASCII/Unicode diagram builder
About
- A tool specialized in making text-based diagrams, with a simple, intuitive UI like MS Paint implemented in text
- Can switch between ASCII and Unicode modes, and includes a background grid for alignment
- Results can be copied directly to the clipboard or exported in Base64 format
Features and Pros
- Focuses on portability, simplicity, and immediacy
- Uses only text, so visual information can be expressed without complex file formats or excessive styling
- Diagrams can be expressed even in environments that do not support images or styling, such as code, consoles, and text-only screens
- ASCII diagrams offer the best balance between the feel of drawing on paper and advanced graphics tools
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Which is better, ASCII or Unicode?
- Unicode looks nicer, but characters may break in some environments, so it is less reliable
- Both modes try to use the most suitable characters possible, but full ASCII or Unicode compatibility is not guaranteed
- You can switch modes freely in Settings
How do I export a diagram?
- Choose Export from the top menu to copy it to the clipboard
- If you use the hosted web version, a short link for re-editing is also provided
- This link is for editing a copy, not the original, so be sure to save it
- Where you paste the output diagram, you must use a fixed-width font; in an environment narrower than the drawing, line wrapping can break the diagram
What is Base64 I/O?
- Diagrams can be exported in Base64 format so they can be saved and loaded without using the online version
- Loading this Base64 data again later lets CASCII restore the previous diagram state
