A bottleneck is a phenomenon in which the performance or capacity of an entire system is limited by a single component. The term "bottleneck" comes from the metaphor of "what it holds is water." The idea is that the speed at which water flows out of a bottle is limited by the width of the neck it flows through.

About

A bottleneck is the place that causes the entire process being handled to suddenly slow down or stop. For example, even if the ISP guarantees an Internet connection speed of 56 Kbps, if the user's modem can only reach 14.4 Kbps, that modem is the main factor dragging down overall performance and can be considered the "bottleneck." The word bottleneck refers to the narrow mouth of a bottle, made narrow so that the liquid inside does not pour out too quickly. In information technology, however, a bottleneck is used to mean a part of a process that tends to slow down the entire processing.
