Bluetooth Low Energy (abbreviated BLE) is the low-power Bluetooth distributed since the Bluetooth 4.0 (Bluetooth Smart) specification was adopted on June 30, 2010. As a result, the existing Bluetooth communication protocol is distinguished by the name 'Classic Bluetooth' and effectively refers to a different kind of Bluetooth communication, but in terms of the technical aspects of communication security and the compatibility of data processing, it can still be considered a version in the same family as Classic Bluetooth.

Key specs
- Supports Classic Bluetooth
- Supports Bluetooth high speed
- Includes the Bluetooth low energy protocol
Bluetooth high speed is based on Wi-Fi, and Classic Bluetooth is based on the existing legacy Bluetooth protocol.
Meanwhile, Bluetooth Low Energy, which greatly reduces power consumption compared to previous versions, can run for several years on a single coin cell battery, according to Bluetooth SIG public materials. The transfer rate is 1Mbps, and the data packet size has become very small at 8 - 27 octets. The specification was designed with data communication with sensors built into home appliances and the like in mind, taking a different direction from the existing 3.0+HS, so product makers adopt 3.0+HS and 4.0 separately according to their purpose.
