A blockchain (block chain) is a public transaction ledger and a technology that prevents hacking that can occur in virtual currency transactions. As a form of distributed database, it is a continuously growing list of data records designed so that operators of distributed nodes cannot arbitrarily tamper with it. A well-known application of blockchain is Bitcoin, a decentralized electronic ledger that records cryptocurrency transactions. These transaction records are mandatorily encrypted and run on computers executing blockchain software. Most cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, are based on some form of blockchain technology.
