Biosphere 2 was an artificial ecosystem project carried out for about two years from 1991 in Oracle, Arizona, USA. An isolated space was built, all energy and matter exchange except sunlight was cut off, and an artificial ecosystem was created inside. Eight scientists lived inside and took part in the experiment, but it failed due to a lack of oxygen, and it is now used as a museum.
