Behavior (行動) is a term that refers to the activities and responses of animals, including humans, in general. The English word 'behavio(u)r' is also used for inanimate things such as objects and machines.
Similar terms are act and activity. Whereas 'act' generally refers to human activity that has an intention or purpose, 'behavior' is seen as a broader concept that also includes unconscious activity (such as conditioned reflexes). Above all, there is no unified view on how to distinguish the use of the two, and depending on the field or researcher they are sometimes used interchangeably. In biology and psychology the word 'behavior' is widely used to avoid the problem of free will, whereas sociology often distinguishes between 'behavior' and 'act'.
