A basis function (also called batang hamsu in Korean) is a function that is a basis of a function space. Just as every function in a vector space can be expressed as a linear combination of basis vectors, every continuous function can be expressed as a linear combination of basis functions.
About
- Basis
- A set of elements in a vector space that are linearly independent and can generate (Span) the entire vector space.
- A set made up of the smallest number of linearly independent vectors.
- The number of basis vectors is the dimension (Dimension) of the vector subspace.
- Basis Vector
- A unit vector pointing in the direction of each axis in a vector space.
- Basis Function
- A set of functions that are mutually orthogonal and linearly independent.
- A function that forms a basis element of a function space.
