Barcode

A barcode is a code designed to be read by computers. It is made by combining black and white bars of different widths and is mainly printed on product packaging. This traditional form of barcode is called a linear (1D) barcode. However, since this method cannot hold much information, matrix (2D) codes were developed, consisting of dots arranged in hexagonal or rectangular grids. Strictly speaking, matrix codes are not bar codes, but they are commonly called 2D barcodes. Today, barcodes representing unique product numbers are printed on most product packaging and are widely used at checkout counters. A single RFID chip costs about 500 won, while a barcode costs around 5 won, almost nothing, so despite ongoing research RFID has not replaced barcodes.
