A tool that converts e-books into audiobooks
What is Audiblez?
- A tool that converts .epub e-books into .m4b audiobooks
- Uses high-quality speech synthesis based on Kokoro-82M
- Provided under the Apache license, trained on less than 100 hours of audio data
- On a Google Colab T4 GPU, can convert "Animal Farm" in about 5 minutes at "a conversion speed of 600 characters per second"
- On an M2 MacBook Pro (CPU mode), "takes about 1 hour at 60 characters per second"
- No CUDA support on Apple Silicon (M1, M2) at present (waiting for MLX support)
Audiblez 4.2 key updates
- Cross-platform GUI based on wxWidgets (Mac, Windows, Linux)
- Support for many languages (English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese)
- Switched from ONNX to a Torch-based implementation using the kokoro package
- CUDA acceleration support (but runs in CPU mode on Apple Silicon)
- Includes cover images and chapter timestamps in audiobooks
- Improved Windows support
