🗃 Open source self-hosted web archiving. Takes URLs/browser history/bookmarks/Pocket/Pinboard/etc., saves HTML, JS, PDFs, media, and more…

A self-hosted web archiving tool

Features

  • Open source that saves any website for offline viewing
  • Imports from manually added URLs, browser history (extension provided), bookmarks, RSS, Pocket/Pinboard, etc., and saves HTML/JS/PDF/media, etc.
    • Can add items one at a time or schedule periodic imports
  • Install on Linux, Mac, Windows (WSL2) or run with Docker, then use as a CLI tool/web app/Python library/one-off commands, etc.
  • Saves snapshots of a URL in several redundant formats, detecting all content included in the page and extracting it into folders
    • HTML/all websites: original HTML+CSS+JS, singlefile HTML, screenshot PNG, PDF, WARC, title, body text, favicon, headers, …
    • Social media/news: article body TXT, comments, title, saves, images, …
    • YouTube/SoundCloud/etc.: MP3/MP4s, subtitles, metadata, thumbnails, …
    • Github/Gitlab/etc. links: GIT source code clone, README, images, …
  • Saves to ordinary files/folders using standard tools such as Chrome, wget, and yt-dlp rather than a proprietary format. That is, all data can be read even without ArchiveBox
  • Sends saved URLs to archive.org to request a separate save (redundant preservation; can be disabled with local-only mode)
