AppLocale is a tool developed by Microsoft for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. It is a program that helps users run applications that do not use Unicode (code page-based) in a locale of their choosing. Because changing the locale requires restarting Windows, AppLocale is especially popular among Western users who use programs released in Asia. The program installs itself in a subfolder of the Windows directory named ~AppPatch, and opens a window asking the user for the program to run and the desired code page. You can also create shortcuts that run a program directly.

AppLocale supports many programs, but not every non-Unicode program. AppLocale is not included in regular retail Windows, but it can be downloaded free of charge from Microsoft's website and run.
