Apache Ant is an automated software build tool used with the Java programming language. It is similar to make, used on Unix and Linux, but because it is implemented in Java it requires a Java runtime environment, and it is used as the standard for building Java projects. The most noticeable difference from make is that it uses XML files to configure the build environment. The default build file name is build.xml.
The logo was made in the shape of an ant after its name (ANT), but the name is said to be an acronym for Another Neat Tool. It was originally created as a build tool, but as more and more features have been added, it has been evolving into an integrated tool covering builds, deployment, unit testing, and more.
