Detailed list of Apache projects

The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is a nonprofit foundation that supports Apache software projects, including the Apache HTTP Server. It was formed in June 1999 by combining the Apache Group with a Delaware company in the US.

The Apache Software Foundation (hereafter, the Foundation) is a distributed community of developers. The software they develop is distributed under the terms of the Apache License and must be free/open-source software. Apache projects are defined by a collaborative, consensus-based development process and an open, pragmatic software license. Each project is managed by a self-selected team of technical experts who are active contributors to the project. The Foundation is a meritocracy, and membership in the Foundation is granted only to volunteers who have actively contributed to Apache projects.

Among the Foundation's purposes are providing legal protection for volunteers working on Apache projects and preventing other organizations from using the Apache brand without permission.

The Foundation also holds the ApacheCon conference every year, focused on bringing together Apache developers and technologies related to Apache projects.

List of projects

  • Apache Sqoop - Sqoop is a command-line interface application that efficiently transfers bulk data between structured relational databases and Apache Hadoop.
  • Apache Kafka - Apache Kafka is an open-source message broker project developed in Scala by the Apache Software Foundation. The project aims to provide a unified, high-throughput, low-latency platform for handling real-time data feeds.
  • Apache Hive - Apache Hive is a data warehouse infrastructure running on Hadoop that provides data summarization, query, and analysis. Initially developed at Facebook, it is used and developed by companies such as Netflix.
  • Apache Hadoop - Apache Hadoop is a freeware Java software framework that supports distributed applications running on large computer clusters that can process large amounts of data. Originally developed to support distributed processing for Nutch, it is a subproject of Apache Lucene.
  • Apache Oozie - Apache Oozie is a server-based workflow scheduling system for managing Hadoop jobs. Oozie workflows can be parameterized using variables such as ${inputDir} within the workflow definition. Parameter values must be specified when submitting a workflow job.
