Kindle refers to the e-book service released by Amazon.com on November 19, 2007, and the devices or applications (or apps) used to access the service. It uses an electronic paper display and its own proprietary Kindle (AZW) format. Content can be downloaded from Amazon's Whispernet over Sprint's EVDO network. There is no charge for accessing Whispernet. The price is 359 dollars. It drew so much interest that it sold out within 5 hours and 30 minutes of first going on sale.
On March 3, 2009, Amazon.com released a 'Kindle' application for the iPhone and iPod touch. Installing this application lets you read Kindle content on the iPhone and iPod touch as well, and a technology named "Whispersync" can sync information between Kindle hardware and other mobile devices.
