An artificial intelligence program being developed by Google DeepMind.
Determining protein folding experimentally requires the help of X-ray crystallography or the use of cryogenic microscopy and the like, but revealing protein folding structures with these methods is costly and time-consuming, taking anywhere from a few months to several years. Some protein structures remain without a clue even after more than a decade. AlphaFold was developed using deep learning algorithms to break through these difficulties in protein folding research.
