Advertising is the act of an identified advertiser communicating one-way through media in order to change the attitudes of the audience exposed to the ad. The Sino-Korean word for advertising, "gwanggo" (廣告), literally means "to make widely known." Advertising is also one of the phenomena that symbolize 20th-century society. Its origins are very old and can be traced back almost to the time writing emerged. In both East and West, advertising activities can be found that reflected the state of social development at each period. However, it was only in this century that advertising became as vigorous as it is today and came to exert considerable influence on every aspect of society, the economy, and culture; in South Korea in particular, it developed remarkably after liberation with the introduction of a capitalist economic system. Because modern advertising often uses mass media, it can also be described as a form of mass communication.

- Open source projects well promoted through HN posts receive many GitHub Stars
Three conclusions of the paper
- Promotion is important in managing an open source project. For example, you should use at least one or two promotion channels
- A Twitter account is a must, followed by user meetings and blogs
- Promotion on social news aggregators like HackerNews should also be considered. (Note that only about 10% of posts submitted to HN succeed)
