AdBlock (AdBlock → ad blocking) is an extension that performs ad filtering for the Google Chrome and Apple Safari web browsers. AdBlock can block page elements such as ads so they are not displayed. AdBlock is the most popular extension for Google Chrome. According to a New York Times article, it was first developed on December 8, 2009, and became supported as an extension for Google Chrome. Safari was added in June 2010.
Starting with version 2.0, the extension blocks resources from being downloaded, like the ad-blocking approach of Adblock Plus for Mozilla Firefox. Starting with version 2.1, translations for individual languages were added, and as of December 2010 it supports more than 40 languages.
