ActiveX is a technology developed by Microsoft for building reusable, object-oriented software components. ActiveX is another name for OLE Automation, and the two are related. Automation refers to the overall technology, while "ActiveX" refers to objects created and controlled through Automation. ActiveX is mostly used to build plug-ins for Internet Explorer.
