Acceleration (加速度) is a physical quantity that expresses how much velocity changes over time.

Uniform acceleration

Uniformly accelerated linear motion: motion along a straight line with constant acceleration.
(v: velocity, v0: initial velocity, a: acceleration, t: time, s: distance)

  • v = v0 + at
  • s = v0t + 1/2 at²
  • 2as = v² - v0²

Gravitational acceleration

Gravitational acceleration (重力加速度) is, in physics, the acceleration of an object moving under gravity.

In the narrow sense, it means the gravitational acceleration due to Earth's gravity. Galileo Galilei showed that Earth's gravitational acceleration is roughly constant regardless of an object's mass. It is commonly denoted by the symbol g. Because Earth's radius is not uniform, the exact value differs from place to place. The standard gravitational acceleration based on the geoid is 9.80665m/s². Weight is mass multiplied by gravitational acceleration.
