AWS:Credit

lastmod 2021-10-01created 2021-10-012 edits

What is a credit? One credit lets the CPU stay at 100% utilization for 1 minute. Each credit has a price. You can set unlimited credits when creating an instance, but you are charged for it, and when credits run out, CPU utilization drops sharply.

About

In AWS, a CPU Credit is the unit that allows a CPU Boost for 1 minute.

Credits are used as follows:

  • When one CPU reaches 100% utilization, the CPU enters the Boost state and consumes 1 Credit per minute.
  • What if there are no Credits? -> This leads to CPU performance degradation.
  • To see this CPU performance degradation, see the link Understanding CPU Credits of T2 instances ( PART 2 ).
