How to connect an external graphics card (e-GPU)

For the hard disk, don't use NVMe in the M.2 slot; use an SSD.

Then connect in the order eGPU -> Thunderbolt -> PCIe -> M.2.

Search for "laptop graphics card", eGPU, etc.

Is it possible to run an e-GPU via USB-C?

USB-C is the name of the actual physical connector. (USB-A is the big one and USB-B is the square-shaped one.) … Now, Thunderbolt (which supports eGPUs) uses a physical connector compatible with USB-C .

So the real question is "Can I use an eGPU over USB 3.x?" The answer is "No".

Now, the USB4 specification (which also uses the USB-C connector) includes PCIe encapsulation as an optional feature.

So if you have USB4 with that feature added, you can use an eGPU (this is sometimes called Thunderbolt-capable USB4).

But it is not common yet. (In fact, it is very rare!)
