7-Zip is compression software distributed as open source. It was developed by Igor Pavlov.

How to install

ArchLinux

sudo pacman -S p7zip

Ubuntu

sudo apt install p7zip-full

7zip Command Line

• To compress a specific directory, do the following.

$ 7z.exe a archive.zip directory

• To use a different compression format, do the following.

$ 7z.exe a -t7z archive.7z directory

• To get the same effect as 'tar cvzf', pass the data through a PIP using STDOUT and STDIN.

$ 7z.exe a -so -ttar archive.tar directory | 7z.exe a -si -tgzip archive.tar.gz

7za x file.7z

Compress with the password entered directly on the command line

7za a -p{PASSWORD} 20230412.7z 20230412

Compress with the password entered at a hidden prompt

7za a -p myfile.7z ./myfile/
